sewing and snowing!!

This morning was fun to wake up to a lovely blanket of white outside!! With not feeling well this last week (thanks so much for all the kindest well wishes!), it got me in the mood to sew a little. I had gotten a couple more granny squares done last week and then got a couple more done today!! I only have 4 more left and then I'll get to start sewing the quilt top together!!

I really love how they are turning out!! The colors looks so soft and pretty against the linen!! And of course I had to take them outside to get a few pictures of them in the snow before it all melted away. :)

Here are the four new ones!
Little Red Riding Hood in Red, Aqua and Pink

Squirrel in the rain!

Hansel and Gretal

Little Red Riding Hood in Pink and Green

I can't wait to see it all put together!  I think it is going to be a favorite new quilt!!

This week-end my son had a boy scout cake auction, and this is the cake that we made.  With me not feeling so well, my hubby did a lot of it with him, but I helped with the trees.  :)  I think it turned out really cute!!

Hope you are having a lovely day!!

japanese x blocks!

I've been moving a bit slow this week! I've had some medical issues lately and finally got into the doctor a few days ago. I've had a lump that has grown, and it has become a little too painful to bear sometimes. I've finally got a date for surgery later this month to have it removed. I'm a bit scared, but am glad that it will be gone soon. :)

For sewing I haven't gotten as much done as I hoped, but started working on that pretty stack!! Thanks so much for all the input, and advise!! I ended up just adding a few more fabrics to balance it out a little and I've added in a bit more color. I decided on the Japanese X block, as that is such a fresh and modern block. I'm so glad I went that route, as I really love how they are turning out, and I think it is just my partners style!!

Badskirt-Amy has a fabulous tutorial with diagrams and step by step instructions. I even printed the diagrams out so they were right there while I was stitching the blocks together!

I have 9 to make for the pillow. I think that will be perfect number to give it that real scrappy look!! I can't wait to see how the pillow turns out!!

Here are the blocks individually!

Aren't these fun blocks!?! You may be seeing a bunch more in the future as they are so fun to make!! :)

I hope you are having a fabulous week!! See you next week!!

making decisions

I've been struggling a little this round with what to do for The Pillow Talk Swap. Well, I finally picked some fabrics...at least I think so. I know my partner loves text prints...so I pulled some special ones just for her!! What do you think...do these look good together. I'm not use to adding in a little black so I'm second guessing myself, but I think my partner might really like it.

My partner also really likes modern, so I'm hoping these also are modern enough??? Ack, I don't know!! Maybe I need to add in more black, and take out the pink?? I think this is one of the hardest parts for me, making decisions!! Would love your input!! :)

i ♥ granny!

Have you seen these lovely granny squares popping up all over blogland!?! I think I've pinned a half dozen of them in the last month!! I absolutely LOVE them!! So of course, it had to go to the top of my list!! Last week I started cutting all my squares... lots and lots of squares, like a bazillion!! Then this last week-end I started sewing some blocks together!

The granny square block is from Blue Elephant Stitches and she has a fabulous tutorial!! If you'd like to make some too, Old Red Barn Co. is having a quilt along that starts in March!! I can't wait to see other peoples versions!! I love how there are tons of possibilities!! For my quilt, I decided to go with Essex natural for the background instead of white...as it is always fun to switch it up a bit. Though, I really do love it both ways!!

Here are some of the individual blocks!!
Aqua and White

Red and Yellow

Pink and Aqua

Red and White

Yellow and Blue

I really love this block!! I think it may be my favorite so far!! I'm a bit surprised as it isn't my normal favorite color combo!! ;)

Red and Aqua

So, I've done 12 so far, and have 8 more to go!! Whoo Hoo!! I would definitely advise cutting all your squares first, as I think it really helps with being able to put them together pretty quickly!

Hopefully I'll get the rest of the blocks done this week!! It has been hard to stop sewing them, as they are quite addicting!! :)

string of hearts

O.k. at this point I think I am a little obsessed!! But, how can I not... hearts, red, pink and aqua, birds and cute little buntings!! Just too much cuteness in one month!! This time I had to combine it all into a valentines pillow! The hearts and birds were inspired by these on pinterest!! I went a bit simpler but you get the idea.

String of Hearts...Pillow!

The hearts hanging from clothes pins!!

I just had to add some pretty pink pom poms which I also heart!! :) After putting my noel pillow away, I needed one that could replace it it for a little bit!!

I really love fun and quick projects!! Aren't the the best!!

This week-end I had the loveliest package arrive from Australia. Kylie sent them to me as it was much more expensive for me to buy them directly from the online shop...so she did the shopping and shipping for me!! :) Aren't they the cutest little tins!! I can't wait to put them to use!! THANKS so much Kylie!! I am so lucky to have the sweetest online friends!!

Happy Tuesday, my friends!!

PS. Make sure to come back later in the week as I'll be having a giveaway for a lovely dress from Shabby Apple!!
