ghome homes~ a pillow and terrarium

Yesterday I worked on a new pillow to go next to the hexegon one. I did my first embroidery, a mushroom house. I still need much more practice, but for my first attempt, I'm pretty pleased! One question about embroidery. I didn't use a hoop, and am wondering if that makes a big difference and if so why?

I also did a cutie little gnome home terrarium, which has been on my list for quite some time!! Ariel has a great how-to on her blog if you would like to make one. They are simple, fun, and sooo cute!! I've started on several others to add to my kitchen window since I just can't get enough of them!!

Hope you have a super spectacular week-end! I have my sister in town, and am so glad to get to have a few days with her!

See ya next week! ;)

  1. Cute pillow. I love the little 'schroom. I always use a hoop as it keeps the fabric taut and makes the stitching more even. It is so much easier too.

  3. That pillow is even better than your first on Kerri! Thanks for sharing.

I was searching on etsy the other day an came across some gnome terrarium accessories. Did you see them? One was a really cute tiny laundry line with tiny little red outfits.

  4. I would definitely recommend a hoop when embroidering. Makes the fabric taught and not puckery like when you stitch. I have been wanting to buy Q-snaps, which I hear are easier to maneuver thru. Also doesn't make the nasty hoop rings that hooops do. Lovely first ♥

  6. You did a fantastic job on your pillow! I love the embroidery and the fabric choices! I'm impressed with your terrarium too! When you get them all made, you'll have to line up all the terrariums for a picture. Did you make your own mushroom inside? xo

  7. Great pillow, the embroidery look excellent to me....I suppose the hook may make it a bit easier and keep it taut but you'd never know by looking at the pillow that you didn't use one. Love the terrarium what are you growing in them??

  8. Thanks for the compliments!! I always love to hear from you!! :)

My husband actually made the mushroom! :) He use to make the clay beads way back in the day, so he enjoyed playing around with it again. I did see the cute laundry line. That is on my list for ones for him to try, and some little gnomes.

I used moss in the terrarium. There is quite an abundance out here in WA!

  9. Ohmygosh -- that embroidery goes perfectly with your fabrics -- sooooo cute!!! I always use a hoop when I embroider -- I think it makes the embroidery look more even -- don't know why though -- it's probably just me. ;-)

  14. Both are super cute! I love that glass jar for the gnome home. For small embroidery I don't always use a hoop - as long as you are careful not to pucker your fabric. Looks like you did a good job keeping it smooth, and I think linen is very forgiving with embroidery. As you do more, your stitches will become more uniform. It is fun and portable, that's for sure!

  15. I love your pillow! Looks like you got your answer regarding the hoop. (just FYI- Mom is AMAZING with embroidery, so if you ever have any more questions there, she is a great one to ask).
I think your embroidery looks fantastic!
I totally remember Paul doing those beads back in the day! I thought I was so cool with the necklace he made for me...

  16. Kerri, so so lovely - the pillow and terrarium both! I had to follow the link to the hex pillow to remind myself what that one looks like. Wow, what a pair they'll be. So so nice!!!

  18. That is too adorable! It'll go really nicely with the hexagon pillow.

As to embroidery, I'm generally to lazy/cheap to buy one here, I think it helps with tension? But yours looks good so I don't think I'd worry about it.
