quilty barn wall quilt!

After I finished quilting my Farmers Wife Quilt I didn't feel ready to give up my farmers wife days.  I decided to make some fun quilty barn blocks and it was the perfect project too keep the farmers wife in me alive.  :)

The tutorials to the quilty barns are from Lori of Bee in my Bonnet.   I checked this morning and the link to the tutorials are still on her blog.   They will only be there for a short time as the barn quilt will be in her next book that is being released in the fall.  Yay, Lori!!  I can't wait for your next book!!

My first barn block is the Weathervane Barn.  This is the tutorial where it gives all the dimensions for the barn.  I wrote that all down so I could refer to it when making my other three barns.  (Please remember the tutorial is only going to be on Lori's blog for a little longer.)

The second barn is the Easy Pinwheel Barn.

The third barn is the Postage Stamp Barn.  I think this may be my favorite!!   :)  Also this is the block that gives instructions on adding your white sashing around each of your barns.

The last is the Scrappy Maple Leaf Barn.

For the scrappy sashing I did it a little different than in Lori's tutorial.  I made nine, 9 patch corner stone blocks.  Each 9 patch block is 3 1/2 inches unfinished.

The scrappy sashing strips I cut 3 1/2 inches X the size of the barn block.

Stippling the quilt sandwich!   One of my favorites part!!

All done!!  Yay!!

Thank you, Lori for creating the barn blocks!!  They were so fun to make!!  They remind me of my short time living in Iowa where many of the barns had painted quilt blocks hung on the front or side of them.  Here is a picture I found that I had taken a couple years ago when I went back to visit some of my family in Iowa.

See you soon!  Hugs,
