double hourglass~ piecing together

i've got about half of the double hourglass blocks pieced, and am having so much fun with these little blocks. they are about 3 1/2 inch squared; i cut 5 inch charms from the flea market fancy fabrics and also from the kona white. i use half of each charm for one block, so that means i can make one for my swap partner and then one for me, to hang in my sewing room! :) i've also loved working with some brighter fabrics than i normally do.

hope everyone has a lovely week!

  3. I've been dying to make one of these quilts for ages! Do you know if there's an online pattern/tutorial for this quilt block? I'd like to do it without cutting triangles, if possible. :)

    I love your blog!

I have a couple of links to patterns for this type of block. I adapted this one from quilters cache for a swap a while back...

  8. Love the pinwheels. I bought a charm pack for a coin quilt, but I just changed my mind and make the pinwheel blocks.

Did you paper pieced the blocks or not?

I am also trying to get in the brighter fabrics.

  15. Was about to ask you about ironing the seams open, then remembered I'd read that on crazymamaquilts, not here. Oops. : )

So I'm curious what the back looks like, how you ironed the seams and how easily they came together when sewing...
