sweet n' shabby tote bag

This last week I realized that I really needed a new tote bag.  My one from Amy, that I have loved and adored, had sadly seen its day... so to the sewing room I went!  I had started on some sweet little hexie flowers awhile back and thought they would be the perfect start.  I just needed a few more so stitched them up while at my kiddos swim lessons.  I love how you can take hexies anywhere!

Have you seen Amy's last tote bag she made for Erin?   This bag is inspired by that one!!

Last month my Aunt gave me the most gorgeous vintage lace. She had gotten them from her mom as she owned an antique shop.  I was so excited to receive a large box full of the prettiest lace!!  Oh, it was like Christmas!

Aren't they so pretty!?!  This is just a small sampler of what she gave me.

I had bought these sweet Atsuko Matsuyama strawberry handles in the summer and was excited to use them!!  I think they added the perfect touch.

I added some simple red and aqua stitching around each flower.

Ready to go shopping now!  Hee Hee! ;)

I took a picture of 6 different sizes of hexie flowers.   As you can tell here the smallest one, 1/4 inch are really tiny.  It was fun making all the different sizes!

I hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I love hexies and make them for hand sewing but could not see my big hands managing those tiny ones. They are truly lovely.

    1. Thanks, Mary! The 1/4 inch were ones that I never thought I'd make because of how tiny they are. It was a bit of work basting them because I fussy cut the tiny images. But with a little patience, you can do it. Stitching them together was just as simple as the others, and because they are so small they stitched together really fast. They were a lot more fun than I thought they'd be and will make more in future. :)

  11. I love that all your hexie flowers are different sizes. I never thought I'd do the teeny tiny ones either, but maybe now I'll give it a try.

  14. Oh, a quilt and sewing lover! You are wonderful at it too!! I love quilts, lace and textiles too, but I only create them with pen & ink, and colored pencils, and sometimes paint.

I hope you'll stop by to see them....
