scrappy modern maples

Have you seen all the maple blocks being made lately?  On instagram I've been seeing them a ton!!  I couldn't resist, and started to make some of my own.    I am in need of a fall pillow so made them 6 1/2 inches and made 9 of them.  I wanted to add some of the deep rich colors of fall to my normal color palette and still am debating on the plum block.   It is the first time I have ever made a purple block.   Even the orange was a first.  :)


What do you think, should I replace the plum block with a red block?    Maybe it will look like a rainbow maple pillow??

 A little bit of a close-up.  I fussy cut some woodland friends and added them to the center of most all the blocks!!  Perfect for fall!!

    They are incredible and yummy....love the plum and the orange mix...all the fussy cut centres are fantastic!!!

    I'll have to say that I love these scrappy maple leafs!!! What a great idea and I can see how addicting they can be especially when each one is the more favorite!!! Thanks for sharing such a great idea!!!!

    Keep the plum! I love it. It is also a nice "fall" color. I have been seeing these blocks everywhere, and after seeing one with jewel tones, decided I better make one of my own. lol

    Ooooo...how pretty your pillow top is :) I would leave in the plum block for that autumn feel :) Have you visited Helen Phillips' blog to see her cute fall decoations....your color palettes are very similar :)

    Kerri, your maple blocks are so beautiful! Yes, it is something different then your usual work :) But it is wonderful!! And your finished block measures 6 1/2 inches? It is so cute! :) Jolana

      Hi Jolana,

      They are 6 1/2 inches unfinished. I cut each square 2 1/2 inches. I still need to sew the blocks together and then they will be 6 inches. :)

    Love these so much Kerry! I don't think I've ever sewn with purple/plum either, but it is perfect as a maple leaf :) Where do I go to find out about the swap.....I'd love to join in.

    Oh, yikes! Your fantastic maple blocks gave me shivers, the happy kind! So gorgeous! I've been working on a Halloween table runner but have been dreaming of modern maples for my next project. And no, I wouldn't change a thing. The plum and brown blocks provide just the right contrast. Delectable!

    This is absolutely one of my FAVORITE modern maples pieces I have seen:) They are everywhere:) I just love the sweet foresty prints in most of your blocks:) Makes me want to go shop for some...Off to your etsy:)

    Beautiful maples! I love your colours. I've just made 12 red and white maple leaves to be made into a cot quilt for my cousin and hisCanadian wife who have A baby due in November.
