Here is some of what they sent!!
After talking with Katie again, and my sweet sister in law, Katrina who comes and helps me a couple times a week, we decided we would have the quilts made locally since there was so much fabric. Katrina then talked with the Steilacoom quilt group and they have already put together some lovely quilts out some of the fabric!! We are still working on putting together a bunch more in the up coming months.
Here are the quilts that have been put together so far!! Aren't they pretty!!
For sending them over to Japan, Katie let me know that Lecien is willing to send them over and distribute them to the effected areas in North Japan. If you'd like to send a quilt or even a gently used quilt, Lecien is offering to send them. All they ask is that they are pre-washed. They can be made from any fabric, and the general size be between 40 X 45 for children and 50 X 60 for adult quilts. Their address is~ Lecien USA, 5515 Doyle St., Ste. 6, Emeryville, CA, 94608.
That is wonderful that your distributor is so willing to help! I've heard that its pretty hard to distribute quilts anywhere because the roads are restricted only to emergency use and "essential" supplies like food, water, medicine. I'm sure as things start to progress however and these quilts can get through, people are going to be SUPER grateful for them. Very heart warming to see how everyone comes together to help out!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great idea. And who would have thought that old fabric samples could make such a huge difference. Fantastic! I am surprised at the amount of quilts that are already finished. So nice to see how we all come together when people, no matter wherein the world, are in great need. Bless you for starting this project and Happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazingly generous and wonderful project. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this!!! Brings a tears to my eyes to know that there are so many wonderful people in this world who care about others. The finished quilts
ReplyDeleteare so sweet!
Have a wonderful Easter Weekend.......
Chris :o)
Give yourself a huge pat on the back because what have you done to help in the relief effort is AMAZING! The fabrics that Lecien sent you and the fact that they are willing to distribute them in Japan is going sooooooo above and beyond ~ they rock! And those quilts that have been made so far are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat is wonderful!! Those quilts are great. What a nice way to give comfort to those poor people. Your great for helping them out as well!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Isn't Lecien the greatest company? I think the quilts will be so welcome. we had families from Japan come through SEATAC. A few stayed in our area and some came to our office for assistance. Such devastion. I'm sort of local (over the Narrows bridge). If you need some help, let me know. I'm a long armer too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I've been frantically working on a quilt to send to Quilter's Newsletter, but it's due by next Friday, and I've been afraid I wouldn't be able to finish it in time. Now I know that if I don't get it done, I can still get it to Japan somehow.
ReplyDeleteIt's about 50x80", though. It just kind of, you know, "told me" how long it would have to be. :)
the quilts look wonderful!! that's a ton of fabric! let me know if you and katrina are still going to do a quilting day.
ReplyDeletep.s. sorry about easter!! :(
