I finally have my project improv quilt top all done, and I think I can get it quilted by the end of the month. I'm not one that can whip out a large quilt each week, but am excited if I get one done each month. Hey, I think for a beginner with 6 kiddos that is pretty good. :)
I picked up some striped white minky and am planning on doing the back with that so it will be nice and soft for cuddling up under while watching movies. Has anyone ever stippled over minky? My plan is to try, so we'll see how it works.
Oh my gosh!!! This is soooooo cute!! I am finishing a quilt right now and it is nowhere as pretty as this!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great and so cheery! Yes, a quilt in a month with 6 kids is pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteI think for a beginner with six kiddos - that quilt is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMinky is directional so be careful. Don't let it stretch it can distort the top and not look right. The quilt is beautiful and the colors are so fun. With 6 kids I am very impressed you picked white for the back! Very brave
ReplyDeleteWow Kerri -- it's gorgeous! And it matches your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is absolutely beautiful! How do you do it? A quilt a month and family of 8 and house and all that. great job!
ReplyDeleteI think one a month is awesome! I have slowed down even on making quilts. I love this one and think the minky would be great, but I have never quilted over it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it!!!!! Love the colors. I have not stippled over minky but I've been advised not to. Will you let me know how it goes? I am very interested because I've thought of trying before but I haven't. I'll let you be the brave one.;)
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt!! The black makes the colors POP!! Great job!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out just great. You'll have to let us know how stippling with Minky goes. I can't quite imagine that.
ReplyDeleteha ha! I don't even know what minky is!...must be a true novice....Thanks for the measurements for the other quilt, you know I have to send you something now that you are my 3rd comment on the crafty thing so watch this space!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I love the colors. I have no idea what minky is but I am sure you can make it work. Putting out one quilt a month with 6 kids is amazing...truly :o)
ReplyDeleteAll the best.
Jill : )
p.s..I just made a runner recently that was made with you in mind. You have me loving the reds and aquas and that is what is in it. Check it out if you get a chance.
i love your colors on this. this is going to be such a fun one for your family to snuggle under. there is so much interest here.
ReplyDeleteand yes, one quilt a month is VERY GOOD. i think everyone has their own pace that is enjoyable for them. i produce as many as i like- no more no less.
I actually just tried that- the stippling on the minky. Well, mine was a microfiber very similar to minky, not the same brand. It was my first attempt at stippling and I had to rip out a part of it because the top puckered. (My fault- figured out what I did wrong.)
ReplyDeleteHowever, the back- the soft part- looked so COOL! I was afraid the stippling would look funny and it just looked absolutely great. I am going to do a lot more quilts this way. I didn't use a batting inside, just put the top right on the minky stuff. It's heavy enough that way and soooo cuddly. So, yeah, go for it!
This is a really pretty quilt. I made a block in this colorway for Project Improv and now I am in love with the color combo. You make very pretty things.
(Also, I think Amanda Jean at crazymomquilts has done something with that minky/backing concept and posted about it.)
Mmmmm, Mmmmm Good. Just like campbell's soup.
ReplyDelete(I'm trying to come up with new verbage for all of your CUTe, SUPER cute stuff) We'll go with MMMMMM today. :D
It's beautiful! Very inspiring actually, which is amazing for a beginner. Good for you!!!

Very nice quilt. I don't think I will ever try the minky thing, but crazymomquilts has done it. She posted it on her blog a while back. You are doing so well. I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's brave, trying to stipple over minkee. I used it as backing and found it was so stretchy that I could only do wavy lines the length of the quilt without puckers. My advice is to pin, pin, pin! Or maybe use fusible batting (and pins) to keep it in place?
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
For a beginner with six kids that is flippin' amazing! I only have two (and a husband) and am lucky to get a baby quilt done in a month.
